“We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life and crops. Give good news to those who patiently endure...” (Q2:155) Muhammad ibn Muslim asked Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a) the meaning of this verse. Imam (a) replied, “All believers will be tested with something they fear from, high prices of things (food), dealing with corruption, making low profits, sudden deaths of near and dear ones, shortage of products … and give good news to those who patiently persevere. The good news here refers to the re-appearance of Imam al-Mahdi (ajtf).
