Ayatullah Syed Abul Qasim Khui was born on 19th November 1899 and passed away on 8th August 1992 (8th Safar 1413). He was born in Khui and grew up in Iran. He later moved to Najaf. After the death of Ayatullah Syed Mohsin Hakim in 1971, he became the next Marja’e taqlid. He had millions among the Shi’a who were doing his taqlid. Shaheed al-Sadr, Ayatullah Wahid Khurasani and Ayatullah Syed Ali al-Sistani were among his students. He lived for about 93 years and passed away in Najaf. His funeral prayers were led by Ayatullah Syed Ali al-Sistani.
