The son of Musa (a) , from the Seal of the Holy Prophet (s) is born,
From Janabe Fatimah (sa) to him (a), honour is sworn.
His name is Imam Ali (a) (al-Ridha), as is his grandfather too,
The lion of Allah (swt), Imam Ali (a), his lineage true.

He opens the locks of every worldly pain,
In the Hereafter, his mercy will reign.
In hope of your mercy, to the day of our end,
The purpose of life, help us comprehend .
  • Wilaadat of Janabe Fatimah Ma’sumah (sa)
O Fatimah (al-Ma’sumah)! Intercede for me, so that I enter Heaven, for indeed you have a great status in the eyes of Allah. (Bihar al-Anwar Vol. 99 Page 267)
  • The Battle of Khandaq
17th Shawwal 5 AH marks the victory of the
Muslims in the Battle
of the Trench (Khandaq) where Imam Ali (a)
heroically fought the
enemy's champion,
Amr ibn Abd Wudd
and defeated him.
  • The Battle of Uhud
The Battle of Uhud took place on 15th Shawwaal 3 AH. Uhud is a
mountain 3 miles North of the
Holy City of Madina. This battle
was fought by the Muslims against the Quraysh of Makkah.
Hamza ibn Abdul Muttalib, the
uncle of the Holy Prophet (saww), was martyred in the Battle of Uhud. He was the first person to be given the title “Sayyid al-Shuhada.”
  • Hadith from Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a)
    The Lesson we learn
The Holy Prophet (saww) had the best of character. In Surah al-Qalam, Allah (swt) says, “and indeed you possess a great character.” (Q68:4)

If we want to improve our character, we must use our intellect to contemplate the
consequences of good and bad actions.

  • Lessons from the Sermon of  Imam Ali (a) on Eid al-Fitr
Imam Ali (a) mentions the qualities of Allah (swt) that
motivate a person to praise and glorify Him.
How could one ever lose hope in His mercy when it
encompasses all things.” (Q7:156)?
No individual is ever deprived of His bounty since human beings are constantly being showered by His blessings, both outward and known, as well as inward and hidden …” (Q31:20).
  • Ahadith on Death from Imam Ali (a)

    The intelligent person is one
who does not waste his [time and] energy in that which does not benefit him, and does not [strive to] acquire that which will
not accompany him [after his death]. (H. 6718)
Verily when Allah, the Glorified, wishes good for a
servant, He grants him success in spending his lifetime doing the best deeds and blesses him with the ability to quickly use his available time to perform acts of worship, before [the coming of] his death. (H.10597)
One who is certain of the [eventual] departure [from this world] prepares for the journey. (H.9533)
  • The Exalted Character of Imam al-Hasan (a)
The greatest merit of Imam al-Hasan (a) was the title granted to him and his brother Imam al-Husayn (a): 'The Leaders of the Youth of Paradise'. This title was designated to them by the Holy Prophet (saww).

  • The Great Status of Janabe Khadija (sa)
Because of her respect, obedience, kindness, and patience, she was very precious to the Holy Prophet (saww). He said, “Khadijah (sa) believed in me when everyone else disbelieved, she held me truthful when others called me a liar, she sheltered me when others abandoned me, and comforted me when others shunned me.”
When Janabe Khadijah (sa) passed away, Angel Jibra’il (a) asked the Holy Prophet (saww) to describe her in a few words. He (s) said, “She was the most truthful.”
She passed away 25 years after her marriage with the Holy Prophet (saww) and is buried in Jannat al Mu’alla on the outskirts of Makkah.
  • Imam al-Mahdi (ajtf) in the Holy Qur’an – 4
“When they became oblivious to warnings, We showered them with everything they desired. But just as they became prideful of what they were given, We seized them by surprise, then they instantly fell into despair.” (Q6:44)
Aside from the general meaning of the verse, another possible meaning according to Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (a) is
When they became oblivious to warnings,
that when the people neglected their duty of being loyal [to Imam Ali (a)] after they had been commanded to do so,
  • Imam al-Mahdi (ajtf) in the Holy Qur’an – 3
Jabir bin Abdullah al-Ansari is reported to have said, “I asked the Holy Prophet (s): We know Allah and His Messenger, but who are those with authority, the obedience to whom Allah has attached to Him and to His Messenger?”
The Holy Prophet (saww) replied, “O Jabir, Those with authority are
my successors. The first of them is Ali ibn Abi Talib (a), followed by al-Hasan (a) and then al-Husayn (a). Then comes Ali ibn al-Husayn (a) and Muhammad ibn Ali (a) [also known as al-Baqir (a)]. You, Jabir, will live to meet him. When you do meet him, convey my salaams to him.
After him comes, al-Sadiq (a), followed by al-Kadhim (a). Then comes al-Ridha (a), al-Taqi (a), al-Naqi (a) and al-Askari (a).
The last of them is the one who will have the same name as me.
And it is he, al-Mahdi (ajtf). whose occultation (ghaybat) will take a long time. No one will believe in him except the true believers.”
  • An Excerpt from the Sermon of the Holy Prophet (saww) to welcome the Blessed Month of Ramadhan.
“O People! Indeed ahead of you is the blessed month of Allah. A month of blessing, mercy and forgiveness.
It is the best of months. Its days are the best of days, its nights the best of nights, and its hours are the best of hours. It is the month in which you are invited to be the guests of Allah (swt). The breath that you take during this month has the reward of tasbih and your sleep therein has the reward of worship. Guard
yourselves from the fire of hell by giving iftār even if it as little as half a date or just a glass of water.”
  • Imam al-Mahdi (ajtf) in the Holy Qur’an – 2
“We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and
loss of property, life and crops. Give good news to those who
patiently endure...” (Q2:155)
Muhammad ibn Muslim asked Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq (a) the meaning of this verse. Imam (a) replied, “All believers will be tested with something they fear from, high prices of things (food), dealing with corruption, making low profits, sudden deaths of near and dear ones, shortage of products … and give good news to those who patiently persevere. The good news here refers to the re-appearance of Imam al-Mahdi (ajtf).
  • Imam al-Mahdi (ajtf) in the Holy Qur’an – 1
Imam al-Sadiq (a) is reported to have said, “ The pious ones are the shias of Imam Ali (a) and the unseen is Imam al-Mahdi (ajtf). The proof of these words is seen in the verse below:
They ask, “ Why has no [other] sign been sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, [O Prophet] The knowledge of the unseen is with Allah alone. So wait! I too am waiting with you.” (Q10:20)
  • Lessons from Du’a 42 of Sahifa Sajjadiyya
The Qur’an can restore the health of those
who ponder over its messages. Imam al-Sajjad (a) describes it as a healing (shifā), because
it is a cure for all man’s inner sicknesses
of pride, hypocrisy and doubt. Blessings are not just assigned to the one
who recites the Qur’an; rather they are earned by pondering over its verses, obeying its injunctions and internalizing its message
so that a person becomes transformed.
  • Lessons we Learn from Hadhrat ‘Abbas (a)
Whenever we think about loyalty, the first person that comes to mind is Hadhrat ‘Abbas (a). When Imam al-Husayn (a) did not
allow him to go to the battlefield on the Day of Ashura, he did not complain. When he went to get water for the children, he did not drink the water from the river. This shows his loyalty to the Imam of the time.
Being brought up by Imam ‘Ali (a), Hadhrat Abbas (a) was
surrounded by love and respect for the Ahlulbayt (a). The love that Hadhrat ‘Abbas (a) and Imam al-Husayn (a) shared
was a reflection of how much Janabe Ummul Baneen (sa) loved Imam al-Husayn (a).
Mothers play a very important part in the upbringing of their children.
  • Similarities between Imam al-Husayn (a) and the Holy Qur’an
The Holy Qur’an encourages us to do good and forbids us from doing evil (Q3:104) Imam al-Husayn (a) said, “My purpose of going to
Karbala was encouraging good and forbidding evil.”
 The Holy Qur’an is a
guide for those who guard against evil, (Q2:2) Imam
al-Husayn (a) is also a guide for those who have taqwa.
  • Imam al-Husayn (a) Leaves Madina
As night fell, Imam al-Husayn (a) went to the Masjid of the Holy Prophet (s) to bid him farewell.
He stood in prayer for a long time. While he was in prostration, he fell into a light sleep, and he saw the Holy Prophet (saww). He said, “My dear son, You have a station in Paradise that cannot be attained except through martyrdom.”
  • What happened on Eid al Mab’ath?
The Holy Prophet (saww) received his first revelation from Allah (swt) The doors of the heavens opened and angels were sent down to the earth to celebrate his Prophethood.
