Dealing with Criticism

October 21, 2024 / editor
As we go through life we have plenty of opportunity to learn and improve ourselves. Therefore, no matter what kind of criticism is aimed at you, analyze it and find something you can learn from. Remember, your value doesn’t decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth.
There are two types of criticism - constructive and destructive – learning to recognize the difference between the two can help you deal with any criticism you may receive. Any person can criticize, condemn and complain but it takes character and self-control to be understanding and forgiving.
Destructive criticism is often just thoughtlessness by another person.
Constructive criticism, on the other hand, is designed to point out
your mistakes, and show you where and how improvements can be made. It should be viewed as useful feedback that can help you improve yourself rather than put you down. Take criticism seriously but not personally. You will never be criticized by someone doing more than you. You will only be criticized by someone doing less.

The Joy of Giving

October 21, 2024 / editor
Selfless giving is the art of living. True giving comes from the heart; no expectation of appreciation. Always give without remembering and receive without forgetting.
When you’re focused on giving to others you’re less likely to become consumed by your own concerns and challenges. Strong people don't put others down... They lift them up. Truly giving from the heart fills your life with joy and nourishes your soul. A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.
The ideal person takes joy in doing favours for others. Giving something to others is an art of flowering the heart. The happiest are those who do the most for others. When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.

Inner Happiness

October 21, 2024 / editor
Actions and feelings go together; by regulating the action, which is under the more direct control of the will, we can indirectly regulate the feeling,
Thus, if your path to cheerfulness is lost, sit up cheerfully and act and speak as if you are cheerful. Try it. It works wonders! Put a big, broad, honest-smile on your face; throw back your shoulders; take a nice deep breath; and recite a few verses from the Holy Qur’an. Then recite a munaajaat or qasida to yourself for a few minutes. You will quickly discover that it is physically impossible to remain
blue or depressed while you are acting out the symptoms of being radiantly happy!
Research has shown that positive thinking and pretending to be happy can in reality lift up the moods of the sick. The divinity that shapes us is in ourselves: our thoughts.

Right Thinking

October 21, 2024 / editor
Imam Ali (a) is reported to have said, “Trust in Allah the Glorified, for indeed He has guaranteed the sufficiency of those who put their trust in Him.” (Ghurar al-Hikam, Page 1042)
“When we rely on Allah (swt) and know that whatever happens is for the best, then we can think correctly. “You are not what you think you are; but what you think, you are!”

Count your Blessings

October 19, 2024 / editor
The words "Think and Thank" ought to be inscribed in our hearts. Think of all we have to be grateful for, and thank Allah (swt) for all our bounties.
We all have a tendency to crib and indulge in self-pity, where we whine about how tough life is and complain about all the things that we have not got. But if we reflect and focus on the blessings Allah (swt) has endowed us with, life will be miraculous. Remember, “To multiply your joy, you must count your blessings.”

Accept what has been predestined

October 18, 2024 / editor
Acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequence of any misfortune."
Focusing on your own personal achievement instead
of comparing ourselves to others, leads to greater satisfaction.

Time Management

October 18, 2024 / editor
“Life is too short to be little.” Many times we allow ourselves to be upset by small things we should despise and forget. Here we are on this earth, with only a few more decades
to live, and we lose many irreplaceable hours brooding over grievances that, in a year's time, will be forgotten by us and by everybody. Let us devote our life to worth-while actions, simple living and high thinking.
Small talk and mistakes do happen. Let them not take
up your time! Most of us worry about what never happens. Break worry before it breaks you!

Hope in the Mercy of Allah (swt)

October 15, 2024 / editor
Circumstances do not make us happy or unhappy. It is the way we react to circumstances that determines how we feel
In Ghurar al-Hikam, Imam Ali (a) is reported to have said,
“Whoever makes Allah, the Glorified, the refuge of his hopes, He will suffice him in his religious and worldly affairs.” (Page 450)
After every bitter disappointment or failure, we find ourselves reluctant to think about the future. Nevertheless, we must accept the fact that challenges are transient, yet hope is the atmosphere of the soul, boundless and never-ending.

True Peace of Mind

October 15, 2024 / editor
Sometimes peace of mind, comes from accepting the worst. When we have accepted the worst, we have nothing more to lose; We have turned off the worry battery, And that means we can now think better in a relaxed state of mind.

Don’t worry

October 9, 2024 / editor
If small things have the power
to disturb you, then who you think you are is exactly that, “small.”

There is a great difference between worry and concern.
A worried person sees the problem, but a concerned person solves the problem.

Imam Ali (a) is reported to have said, "Verily the friends of Allah are those who remember Him the most, are constantly grateful to Him and have greater patience in the face of His trials."
