Supplications (Du’a and Ziyārāt)

  • A Synopsis of Du’a 45 from Sahifa Sajjadiyya
Praise and Glorification of Allah: In this supplication, Imam Zain al-Abideen (a) begins by praising Allah for His kindness towards His servants. He rewards them for praising and thanking Him when it is really He who has inspired us to do so. Furthermore, it is He who guided us to the right path yet He still rewards us for following it.

Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness: Repentance follows confession and regret – only when one has remorse for his misdeeds can he truly gain forgiveness from Allah. Imam al-Sajjad (a) says that remorse is “firmly knitted in our hearts” and pardon is “sincerely uttered by
our tongues” as we confess and repent for our wrongs. We also ask forgiveness for our
shortcomings and negligence in this blessed month.

  • Last Days of the Blessed Month of Sha’bān
Abu Salt al-Harawi reports that he visited Imam ‘Ali al-Ridha (a) on the Last Friday of the Month of Sha’bān. The Imam (a) said to him, “O Aba Salt, the greater part of the month of Sha’bān has elapsed. Try to make up for the neglect of the past days of this month by compensating in what remains of it. Devote yourself to what is beneficial
for you. Supplicate a lot and plead for forgiveness. Recite the Holy Qur’an as much as you can and repent for your sins so that when the Blessed month of Ramadhan sets in, you will have purified yourself. Fear Allah and trust Him in everything. Let there remain no unpaid debt you owe anybody and no ill-feeling left in your heart against anyone ... Fear Allah and put your trust in Him …

  • Daily Du’a for the blessed month of Rajab
O Allah, send blessings on Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad In the Name of Allah, the Most Kind and the Most Merciful! O You from whom I expect every good, and seek safety from Your displeasure in the face of every evil! O You who give abundantly for that which is trivial! O You who grant to whomever requests You. O You who give also to those who neither ask you nor know You, out of Your compassion and mercy! Grant me, for my petition to You, all the good of the world and all the good of the Hereafter! Save me, for my petition to You, from all the evils of the world and the Hereafter, for what You grant is never deficient, and enhance me out of You grace,
O All-munificent! O Majestic and Munificent! O All-generous bestower of blessings,
O dispenser of favours and bounties, save my grey hair from the Fire! O Allah, send blessings on Muhammad and the Household of Muhammad.
